Many people love chocolate, but few go as far as making it. Delaine Willms is one of the few who had an interest in learning how chocolate was made. Her curiosity set her to take a chocolate-making course, where she began making her own confections for her family to enjoy. That then led to craft fairs, where her sweets were a big hit and eventually, in 2009, to her own store, Into Chocolate Candy & Confections, which she opened with her husband, Doug Willms. “Delaine ran the store by herself the first few years,” says Doug. “In 2013, I quit my job to work full-time in our business, because it was getting too demanding with just one of us full-time. It’s been a lot of fun.”
In 2012, Doug took his first go at fudge-making, which has become a great part of his success at Into Chocolate Candy & Confections. “The thing that draws people to the store is evenly split between the chocolate and the fudge,” says Doug. “People like the stuff you make yourself. The stuff you make yourself is unique to what you do.”
